A Study of Accident on Emergency cases at a General Hospital

Abstract
|
|
|
The observation on medical accident upon 1,258 cases who registered in emergency clinic, Choanam University Hospital, due to any kind of accident was carried out during the period from January to September 1972. The results obtained were as follows:
1. The rate of medical accident to the total 3,088 emergency cases was 40.7% (43.9% for male, 36.6 % for female), and the highest medical accident rate (59. 8%). was observed in age group 16-30, and 21.8% of the total accident was happened in-group under 15 years of age.
2. The leading types of medical accident were "drug ingestion", collisio", "traffic", and "hit by objects", and accidents were occurred mostly in spring (32.5 %) followed by summer (30.0%), winter (19.6%), and fall (17.9%) in order.
3. The most of cases were arrived at the emergency clinic in, the afternoon, especially in night after 18 o´clock, than in the morning, and 65.2% of the cases were from the area within Kwang-ju, city.
4. The case fatality of medical accident was 8.9%. "Drowning", "firearm and explosives", "traffic", and "drug ingestion" were the types of fatal. It seems to be that accidents of male were consulted mostly by surgical section, and accidents of female were by section of internal medicine.
